Lego small houses
The small houses are the smallest and cheapest sets Lego offered to go with the town plan in the late 1950s. The one in the middle I turned into a kiosk, imagining the shutters to be newspaper racks. My small houses are built from parts moulded in the cellulose acetate plastic Lego used at the time, with plates having the appropriate waffle pattern underneath. The material has its distinctive bright shine, but its distinctive warp is also evident here and there. The rear of the buildings also have nice details, and provide useful pieces as a base for expansion. As with many of my buildings, the photographs here tell me that I still need to bleach some of the parts incorporated in them. Here are the small houses in a Lego folder from around 1958 (Belgian edition - as also mentioned elsewhere, a loaf of bread cost some 7 - 7.50 francs at the time to give an idea about the prices). As with all sets, a simple internet search for the set numbers will find you the instructions to construct these buildings.
